Other games.

There were other games we played.
These are: London bridge is broken down, ring-a-ring of roses, brown-girl in the ring, I've come to mend the water works, simple simon.
I have to admit I can hardly recall the actual words and body movements for the first three.

The last two are pretty straight forward. I've come to mend the water works is like a game of charades but more to do with activities rather than words.
Simple Simon is chosen from the group, and the rest are to follow his/her commands and actions but only when he begins with "Simple Simon says...."
Were there variations on this game, for example, what if SS commanded "SS says put your hand on your head, but he rubbed his stomach instead?

  1. My memories of the 3 games you mentioned are rather rusty but here goes:

    1. London Bridge is (broken) falling down -
Game: 2 players make an arch while the others pass through in single file. The arch is then lowered at the song's end to 'catch' a player. I can't recall whether the caught person goes out or replaces one of the 2 forming the arch.
The words of the song are:
    1. London Bridge is falling down
    Falling down, falling down
    London Bridge is falling down
    My fair lady
    2. Build it up with wood and clay
Repeat as 1. using 'wood and clay'
    3. Wood and clay will wash away
Repeat as 1. using 'wash away'
    4. Build it up with bricks and mortar
    etc
    5. Bricks and mortar will not stay
    etc
    6. Build it with iron and stell
    etc
    7. Iron and steel will bend and bow

You can make up your own versions.

    2. Ring a ring o'roses
Game: Participants stand in a circle holding hands followed by skipping in one direction as the sing the verses. At the end of the line 'We all fall down' the group falls down into a heap.

I can remmeber only 1 verse as follows:
    Ring a ring o'roses
    A pocket full o'posies
    Ah-tishoo, ah-tishoo
    We all fall down.

    3. Brown Girl in the ring

Game: players form a ring by holding hands, then 1 boy or girl goes into the middle of the ring and starts skipping around to the song. When asked 'Show me your motion' the boy/girl in the centre does a dance. Asked 'Show me your partner' he/she picks a friend who then goes into the centre and the song starts again, the replaced child goes into the ring.

Words: There's a brown girl/boy in the ring
Tra la la la la la
    Repeat the 2 lines
For she/he likes sugar and I like spice

    O show me your motion
Tra la la la la, Repeat the 2 lines
For she/he likes sugar and I like spice

    O show me your partner
    etc,.
There may be more verses. Boney M in the late 70s had a hit record of the song but I think their version may be somewhat differest.

    Anyhow hope this helps.
